You'll notice that today's class says "Peer Review." This is a fun day for y'all. Here are some guidelines:
1. we don't meet as a class; this guarantees there's at least one hour everyone has free for the assignment.
2. you should plan on spending about an hour, though you can certainly go longer than that.
3. you can meet wherever and whenever. as long as it's before class on Wednesday.
4. everyone should bring a draft of a paper to group.
5. you should spend your time looking at the papers and giving each other ideas for revision. similar to ICPP's, but in a smaller setting and on a smaller (possibly friendlier) scale.
As always, email me if you have questions.
yay. i need some good opinions. i am literally bleeding statistics out of my ears, so I'm finding it hard to step back and analyze my work since I have been so steeped in it.
ReplyDeleteGood stuff! It's nice to be able to get so much feedback on papers. It really helps!
ReplyDeleteSounds great! sometimes its good to meet somewhere other than the library too, so you can discuss papers without feeling like the noisiest people on the floor.

I have to be slightly skeptical about Rosalind's claim of literally bleeding statistics out of her ears, but maybe that's unwarranted. I don't know.
ReplyDeleteAn hour was not really enough to get very far in depth about the papers, but that was all that we had because of scheduling.
This activity would have been great if my group would have actually showed up for it.
ReplyDeleteThe small-group setting was good for us; we got some good editing in. I like that we're assigned to the same groups all semester; I'm getting to know these people better and they're also proving to be a good resource for the class.
ReplyDeleteThe small group was good, but we were only able to get through one persons paper. I think it help everyone else though because we could see were good and bad aspects of the paper
ReplyDeleteThis was nice. I never realized how helpful peer review is
ReplyDeleteYeah, same here. I am usually not a fan of letting others read my writing, but it is helpful.
ReplyDeleteWow, I could use a peer edit right about now.
ReplyDeleteI love working with my group! It really helps having someone to help you out!
ReplyDeleteMy peer review group was a life saver!
ReplyDeleteI love my peer group :)
ReplyDeleteSounds good! This was really helpful.
ReplyDeleteThis was an effective approach to editing for my group - once. Perhaps that in just because we were often unprepared. If only we would have started our papers sooner...
ReplyDeleteThanks for putting us in peer review groups. I really loved my group, and they were helpful and fun to work with this semester!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't have survived this semester without my peer review group
ReplyDelete"I feel like... I don't want this candy anymore because I can't... bite it..."
ReplyDeleteI didn't love the whole peer group idea, but maybe I just had a bad group.
ReplyDeleteI love my peer review group (:
ReplyDeleteMe too! Especially lately when I have problemos with my wikipedia and need someone to vent to!
